We all had a great Christmas. We got home New Years Eve Day and put away all our gifts, did laundry, and cleaned up the tree and Christmas decorations. Caden was very distressed when we put up the blow up Winnie-the-pooh thing from the front yard. He watched very sadly and kept saying -- Mine. Then he really threw a fit when we took his ornament off the tree and tried to put it away. We eventually distracted him enough to get it put away and soon forgotten about.
Rusty gave Zeke a game boy game, Caden a Thomas Interactive Book, Chris a PSP game, and me a necklace. Zeke gave Rusty a game boy game, Caden a remote control car, Chris a pair of night pants, and me a pair of ear rings. Caden got mommy a bracelet.
Rusty is enjoying reading the books he got this year from several different people. He really likes to read. Actually they all like to read. He also got a hand made quilt from grandma and a snow board (hopefully it will snow again).
Zeke got GI joe stuff (he LOVES army stuff and army men). He also got books, a handmade quilt from grandma, and a knee board (pray for snow).
Caden got Thomas the Tank Engine under bed storage and play unit, and a wooden track. He also got Thomas underwear, a handmade quilt from grandma, a wooden train whistle with a train engineers hat, and a sled (we need snow).
Great-Grandma Hardcastle (my mom's side) got each of the boys a corvette from the museum in Bowling Green where she lives. Great-Grandma/pa Deglow got them each a basket full of little stuff. There was some really neat stuff in the basket. Russell especially enjoyed his new wallet and hat, and Caden and Zeke have been fighting over Zeke's big dump truck. Caden has also played with and enjoyed everything in his basket.
I must say that the quilts were awesome. The boys loved all of their gifts this year. I think the nicest part of Christmas this year is that no one went overboard. The kids really appreciated each gift they got and have been able to enjoy most of them already.
The most enjoyable part of Christmas this year was the two days we spent at Wolf Lodge (indoor water park)with the family (my parents, both my brothers and families, and us). We had to remove Caden kicking and screaming from the water both days, but boy did everyone have a blast. I couldn't believe how fearless he was of the water and the water slides. They even let him go down one of the really big slides and he smiled all the way down. Since Russell turned 12 while we were there we were able to give him a little more freedom. It has been very hard on him for many years. He is so much older than all the other grand kids. It really made a big difference in his attitude being able to move about a little more freely. We still needed him to help with the little ones, but we were able to let him get out on his own a bit. He rode some slides, went to the arcade, and swam in the wave pool without the restriction of the little ones. Of course now we are at the point were we have three distinct age groups -- the Can ride everything, the can ride Some things, and the can ride NOTHING. Thankfully with all the adults around I think all the kids were able to fully enjoy the park.
New Years Eve was nice. We dropped Rusty off at the church at 7pm for a lock-in. Then, we let Zeke stay in his room eat snacks and watch movies until the ball dropped. He watched HEMAN (I bought the first season on DVD a while back), and Valiant (the cartoon movie about the carrier pigeon heroes of WWII). Caden went to bed as normal, and Chris and I stayed up to watch football, the ball drop, and some guy make the longest motorcycle jump in history (very memorable since I can't remember his name LOL).
I do need to update you all on the "mouse situation". Unfortunately the mouse saga is not so over as we had thought. Just before we left we had another tiny mouse in our room. He managed to set off the trap but not get caught and then Chris chased him around the room for about 30 minutes. He had him trapped for a while and took a couple stabs at him with his knife but he got away. We have seen no evidence of him since our return so we think we did enough damage for him to crawl off and die. YEAH! Unfortunately it still doesn't end there. As I was switching laundry last night the mouse in the laundry room showed his ugly whiskers. This of course confirmed that the mouse in the laundry room was, in fact, not the same as the one(s) in the bedroom. We chased him around the bonus room for a few minutes and lost him so we set up traps for him and went to bed. Thankfully he was dead this morning and Chris disposed of the carcass. God willing that is all of them. I really don't like mice.
