All God's Creatures

I think that I have a healthy appreciation for all God's creatures. I have always tried to stress to the boys that they should not be afraid of bugs and other things normally thought of as "icky", just because of what they are. I want them to appreciate frogs, lizards, butterflies, and even spiders and snakes. Of course, they have been told to appreciate some things from a distance and others to keep outside of the house. Consequently the boys are very comfortable with all the little creatures, and my biggest problem is keeping them outside. So, along with all this "appreciation" is also the little rule I like to live by that says: Some of God's creatures should NEVER be in my house. These would include but not necessarily be limited to: spiders, mice, snakes, insects or any kind, etc. . . . Imagine my surprise Tuesday night when, for the first time in my adult life, I saw a little gray mouse IN MY HOUSE. This cannot happen. Mice are not cute unless they are in a cage at the pet shop or in a Disney movie. Then, Wednesday night, he showed up IN MY ROOM. Now I've had it. I definitely will not share my sleeping quarters with a mouse. Last night, it was still in my room, even though we couldn't find it. I say we because Kadiy knows it is in the room. She was up and down all night. Every time she heard it she would get up and search for it. It was kind of interesting to watch her hunt. After she looked and found nothing she would come to me and want me to pet her and tell her to go back to bed. All I could think was -- What will happen to my room if this mouse actually shows itself to my 150lb mastiff?? Not something I really want to happen. So, today we are purchasing new household tools to get rid of the mouse. Since I can't put down poison because of the children and dogs, and I am not really for finding dead mice or releasing a live mouse somewhere (so it can just come back into my house), I have opted for the repellent. Little things you plug into the walls that make a noise inaudible to humans but not liked by mice. I hope it doesn't take him long to get the message.

Oh NO!!! Yuck! You know, we had bats in our old house in Xenia. They were tons worse than mice because they flew around really fast, darting and dodging things. But other than bats, there is nothing I want less in my house than mice. NOTHING! They freak me out (and carry lots of diseases, right?!) I hope your repellant works. I've never heard of that! I would never go for the traps where you ahve to dispose of the dead body either, LOL. Yuck.
