Afghanistan is so much prettier than Iraq

Chris' company has decided that after 5 years in Iraq, they want him to start working in Afghanistan. Until this month he had not been to Afghanistan since his guard unit deployed their in 2003. He has spent about 2 weeks there and has 2 more weeks before he comes home. This is a shorter trip than usual, because he is just getting familiar with the new place before returning for 3 months after the new year. He sent me pictures so I am posting one. Doesn't he look comfortable? LOL

We went to eat at the Dinning facility at Shepherd College today. Turns out one of the men from our church is the head Chef for the facility. All the kids eat for FREE and I only have to pay $7 for myself. It is a buffet style Brunch and it was pretty good. Olivia even ate some. She ate about a tablespoon of stuffing. Of course last night when we went out for my birthday she ate quite a bit of the pudding (her favorite being banana). She is really starting to like the solid foods now.

Today after church we went to the dollar store to buy stuff for our "shoe boxes". We are making 4 shoe boxes to send to the Christmas Child program. Three are for boys and one is for a girl -- just like our family. We bought stickers and balls and candy and crayons. It was really fun. When we got home we put all the stuff in our boxes and discovered that we were short an item in one of the boxes and will need to go get something else this week. We also have to wrap the boxes this week so we can turn them in on Sunday. I am so glad we are doing this. I just gave the boys an assignment of doing a "community service" or volunteer project each month. We had a lot of fun putting together the boxes.

Oh, we love filling those shoeboxes too! Fun!

That brunch is quite the good deal. I love brunch, but there's definitely nowhere around here that is affordable! Glad Olivia is finally deciding that solid food is okay, LOL.

It looks like Chris is relaxing over there! Great picture!
