Monday after Chris left for Alaska we all got up and went to Ice Skating lessons. The boys are really having fun with ice skating. Then, we picked up the dogs and went home to do the rest of our school work. Tuesday morning was our first day of Science Classes at the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore. Even though it is only about an hour and 20 minutes from our house, I left giving us two and a half hours to make sure I could find it and get parking. Everything went well, and we got there with plenty of time to look around a bit before classes.
The boys had a blast, and we all headed back out to where we had parked the car at a meter on the street. The first things I noticed was the two vans parked either side of my car. To make a very long story - short - my car had been broken into and the meter repair guys seen the guy getting out of my car. We are not positive how he got in, although we think he climbed in through the back window. The back window if it is not closed hard enough does not latch, and the alarm does not set if every door is not latched. So, the good news is they never found Chris' Rolex. I had it in the car to take it to be services. They also never found the spare car keys, and didn't steal the Sirius radio from the dash. The bad news is they stole Zeke's game boy and all his games and accessories. This would not have been such a big deal except that Russell's was stolen in the airport about a month ago. Zeke had ALL the games from the past 3 years of birthdays, Christmas, etc. . .(for both of them) in the car. There were about 20 games in all plus the system and case and charger cord etc. . . They also stole some cartoon DVD's that Zeke had gotten for his birthday on the 1st, the Leapster from Caden's bag, and the some of the Leapster games. All in all replacement value of what we lost -- over $1000. Unfortunately for us, WV has a law that unless it is permanently affixed to your vehicle the maximum you can claim for theft from your vehicle is $250. WHAT!!! Well, at least we got the $250. Oh yeah I forgot to mention he stole the brand new Motorola Razor phone that we keep in the car for emergencies for the kids. So now you know why it was the most expensive science class ever.
Of course we have learned a lot this week at the Science center, and Caden and mommy have had a blast exploring while the big boys have been in class. Zeke learned all about dinosaurs, learned how to make a flashlight with a paperclip, battery, and light bulb, and disected a clam. Russell learned all about hurricanes, DNA, and how to survive on an island. We were supposed to go back today to learn about fossils, but mommy just had too much to do. We are fixing a special dinner for when Daddy gets home tonight. Speaking of --I better get to fixing
