SNOW, SNOW, snow, snow, snow . . . and more snow

Holy Cow snow. When we first thought about moving north to be closer to Chris' job, I thought that would be cool. We will see seasons. The kids will have a chance to grow up around snow. We will be so close to so many things by living up near DC including closer to Grandparents. Now I am thinking -- One blizzard is enough for anyone to live through in a lifetime. Maybe we should move back south. Holy Cow 40 inches is A LOT OF SNOW. Yes, that is right, we have had OVER 40 inches in the past 6 days. At least there was a break between the first 30+ and the last 10+. They were able to get the roads partially clear and some things fixed before it all broke again. LOL.

We got home late Sunday night, in the dark, to find that all the road and all the drives in our entire neighborhood were clear -- EXCEPT ours. First, Chris and I carried the sleeping little ones into the house to put them in bed. We had to wade through snow that was approximately 3 feet deep all the way down our driveway. BRRRR. We were not dressed appropriately to do this. Then, we took shovels back to start shoveling out the end of the drive to get the car off the road. We had to put Jake (cousin) in the sled to pull him down the drive because he was too little to walk through the snow. We did the best we could to shovel in the dark and finally 2 hours later we were able to park the car in the drive and go in to bed. The next day we shoveled the path from the night before to make a sidewalk to our car so the little ones could walk all the way from the garage door to the end of the drive. Finally Chris had to leave to take Russell back to school. Later that day, God sent a very helpful man (who I don't know) to plow our drive. THANK YOU.

The kids have had a lot of fun playing in the snow, but it isn't the same as usual. Chris and I had to sled the hill for about 30 minutes to pack down the snow so they could actually sled down the hill. We made two make-shift toboggan runs this way. Then, we made walking paths beside them and dug it out and packed it down so the little ones could walk back up. The walking back up was still an adventure. They had a lot of fun sledding, and then I took Olivia in while Caden, Zeke, and cousin Jake stayed out there to build a fort in the snow. Later in the day Jake and Zeke did a big favor for me and cleared off the entire back porch. They worked very hard for almost two hours -- and played of course. Meanwhile I managed to slip and slide in the car the two miles to the grocery and back. The grocery was out of almost everything. It reminded me of when we had Hurricanes in Florida. That was after the first snow.

Through all of this we have still managed to get 3 days of Schooling done. Of course the kids don't know that I plan on taking tomorrow OFF -- we will just call it a SNOW DAY. LOL. They have all been getting along so well. Jake has been a really good kid at our house and seem to really be enjoying himself -- despite Aunt Johanna making him do his school work.

Last night and this morning it dumped the promised 10 more inches of snow on the ground. This of course made it look like our back deck had never been cleared, and of course the boys asked if I would pay them to clear it again. HAHA -- NO. The kids did play on the back porch for quiet some time and are busy building a snow fort from the pile the guy plowed out of our drive. The snow has finally stopped, however they say we will get two more inches tonight and oh yeah it will snow 3 times next week. Hopefully the roads will be clear enough to drive to the kennel and pick up our dogs soon -- It is getting rather expensive.

Included are pictures of the deck before and after the boys shoveled it (Did not include a picture of the new TEN inches LOL). Also a picture of the path down the drive to the car before and after clearing and a couple of the boys working on their fort.
