We had a really great Memorial Day this year. Chris got home for the weekend on Thursday night, and didn't have to go back to work until Tuesday. I know this may not seem like a big deal to some people but this is HUGE for us.
In addition to actually having Chris home for the weekend, the weather was AWESOME. I couldn't have asked for a better time. Friday, Chris had a dental appointment in the morning and then Beth and I went to the Amish market to get some meat. I bought fours slabs of Beef ribs for Chris to BBQ on Saturday. He makes the best ribs, and it had been a long time since he last had the time to make them for us. When we got home we had company. A friend of Beth's sells Mary Kay and came over to show me some of their new stuff. I don't wear make-up, but I do like some of their lotions and facial cleaning products. She brought her daughter over, and Beth brought her kids over. We had pizza and the kids played in the pool. It was a really good time. When everyone left for the evening Chris and I used the last couple hours of daylight, to finish up some yard work. It was a very productive day.
I feel like I have to clarify for some people. POOL -- hmm. We bought this house with an in ground pool. A rather large nice one actually. Well, it would be nice if the filter and chlorinate weren't too small, the pump broken, and the liner poorly installed and damaged. We managed to make it through one season, struggling to keep it in working condition. Then, last year we were going to fix it but the A/C went out and took all our pool money to fix that. This year we were going to fix it but Chris took a cut in hours therefore a cut in pay and we were unable to get the money together to fix the pool -- once again. We could not make it through another summer without a pool. Twelve years in FL spoiled us. So, we caught a inexpensive 4 ft deep above ground pool for the big kids and an 18 in deep wading pool for Caden. It works pretty well for now.
Now, back to the weekend. Saturday, we spent them morning doing . . .you guessed it . . . yard work. Russell spent the morning at a Youth Outreach car wash and Ezekiel was a great helper at home. Then, that afternoon, Beth, Gary, and the kids came over for BBQ ribs, etc. . . We ate some of the best ribs and spent quite a few hours hanging out, talking, and watching the kids in the pool and on the trampoline. Such a great day.
Sunday was spent as a day of rest and Family time -- except we did go out for DQ ice cream. Unfortunately while we were all trying to hang out and the kids were watching ET (there are actually kids out there who have not seen ET -- AAAGHHH), I got the worst migraine I have had in a long time.
On Monday, we got up, and after picking up Starbucks coffee on the way, we drove to Shady Grove Metro to head into DC for the day. We met up with Beth and Gary again, and headed to the Museum of American History. We spent all day seeing ONE floor of the museum. It was a great time and I think the kids learning a lot. Caden loved the trains and cars and motorcycles (I could have sworn there used to be more motorcycles than there is now -- Chris thought so too). Ezekiel really enjoyed the war rooms, and I think Russell was just happy walking around the museum and talking to Toni all day. LOL. We even got to see some of the Memorial Day Parade through DC from inside the Museum. It was a great day and a perfect ending to the weekend.
With the end of the weekend came the rain, and it has been raining ever since. I am grateful for the rain, because the allergens are crazy right now and Russell has had about all he can take.
