Back to WV and the Homeschool Fine Arts Fair and Trail Running

Chris left Florida on 2 May and headed to Alaska for a week. We decided at this point it would be easiest for the rest of the family to head back to WV as well. So we loaded up the kids and the dogs and headed north. I was towing an almost empty trailer behind my car but it still gave us a hard time. The trailer combined with a monsoon that let loose on us for the last 8 hours of the trip and a toddler who felt the need for a potty break every 90 minutes, made for a very very long drive. in fact the drive that normally takes us 12 hours took us 15 hours. When we got to Dayton to rest for the remainder of the night I was exhausted, it was 40 degrees and still pouring down rain. It was one of the most miserable trips I have been on in a long time, and we still had the last 6 hours to do the next day. The next day was not nearly as taxing as far as children and potty breaks, but my car definitely did NOT like dragging that trailer through the mountains. We finally did make it home just to jump into a rat race schedule for the following 10 days. The first day we were back, we had to pick up the dogs, mow the lawn, do laundry (as everything that was in the car top luggage bag was SOAKED from the monsoon), Caden had Tap Dance class, and everyone had AWANAs because it was Wednesday night. We survived the rest of the week and things began to settle down just in time for Mother's Day.

I had a very awesome Mother's Day weekend. Chris and I got to go for motorcycle rides both Saturday and Sunday afternoon. My children were extremely well behaved ( I hear Chris threatened them with their lives--LOL), and we got lots done around the house. The weather was beautiful for a change and I really loved all my cards the kids picked out for me.

The following week we had all the usual extra curricular activities, and we got to spend lots of time with our friends Kristin, Seth and Caleb. Seth and Caleb just recently started homeschooling and I gave them their standardized tests. It took three days total, but the kids had so much fun playing during their breaks each day. On the last day, Caden and Ezekiel spent the night with Seth and Caleb. I was so thankful for the nice weather (for the most part) which was contrary to the forecast. Also, during the week Russell got to get out and get a couple more driving lessons in. He is getting better, but has a long way to go before he is ready for that license. Fortunately, he hasn't done anything to get me too excited. He is an extremely cautious driver ( I only hope it stays that way) . On Thursday, I also had to go shopping to buy Russell supplies to bake food for the Homeschool Fine Arts Fair.

The Homeschool Fine Arts Fair was 13 May. Russell and Caden made Stromboli and Homemade Blackberry soda. They were both awesome and the boys got TONS of complements. Ezekiel played a drum solo. He was amazing. I am so impressed with how well he plays his drums, and he really enjoys it. After the recital he told me he wanted to find more places/times where he could play his drums for people. The rest of the Fine Arts Fair was pretty cool too There were a few oral presentations and some piano players and lots of science project displays and art work. About 100 people showed up to enjoy it or participate. After the Fair we packed up the drums and hurried home so that Zeke and I could get some sleep because we had a race to run in the morning

** Zeke's drum solo file was too big to upload so. . . If you have facebook you can watch it there on my facebook page**

On Saturday 14 May, We ran our first race of the season ( It was supposed to be a month ago but that race got cancelled due to the almost government shut down -- long story). We ran the Two Rivers Heritage 4mile (really 4.25 miles). It was a really nice run right up to the finish. Whoever designed the finish to be a quarter mile up a steep hill -- should be shot. Anyway, Zeke finished second in the 13 and under division -- to a 13 year old. His finish time was 38:15. He even beat me by over a minute. I finished 6th in the "old lady" category. It was a nice time.
